There are many places across India where the traditional grid with either never each or will ever be reliable. These communities are either un-electrified or under-electrified.

Current solutions to providing power to these communities are either :

  • Not very Economical, or
  • Not very Reliable, or
  • Not very scalable, or
  • Have high health risks, or
  • Emit high amounts of GHG gases, or
  • Importantly, supply not congruent to user's needs.

The only answer to providing energy to these communities is Decentralized micro/mini power generation - Local generation, Local Distribution. Oorja's solution is a Decentralized Renewable Energy (DRE) solution using Solar Thermal based Polygeneration system which can provide Heat, Power and/or Clean Water.

Oorja's Solar Thermal based Rural Electrification Solution

Our technology concentrates solar radiation directly onto a thermal storage unit desinged and developed by Oorja. This heat can directly be used for many industries like agri, rural, textile, water desalination, etc as well as can be integrated with an Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC) system for electricity production.

Over its lifetime, our solution costs about 1/3rd the Capital Cost of Solar PV with storage and 1/8th the cost of Diesel. The ground space required for our solution is 1/3rd of the Solar PV farm. It is indigenously developed requiring no imports.
