The program recently conducted a 2-day National Academy in New Delhi to kick start the accelerator program. It was participated by all selected companies, their mentors, trainers from Cleantech Open and officials from UNIDO, MSME, NDRC and AEEE. There were great takeaways from the event and the company is actively engaged in learning to scale up through the accelerator program culminating in the final event in San Fransisco in February 2016.

Oorja Energy Eng’g has been awarded as one of the Top 50 Influential Leaders in Solar Energy. The award was conferred at the Global Solar Energy Conference and Awards at Taj Lands End, Mumbai on 26th November, 2015. Oorja’s Managing Director Mr. R Madhusudhan Rao received the award at the event.

Solar EnergyOorja was awarded as Top 50 Influential Leaders in Solar Energy

Oorja has been at the forefront of innovation in Solar Thermal technologies and has implemented many solutions like:

  • Solar for Industrial Process Heat
  • Boiler Feed-water pre-heating using Solar
  • Solar Drying of Industrial Effluents
  • Solar for Community Cooking

Oorja’s Solar solutions offer the benefit of reduction in fossil fuel consumption for various industrial process heat requirements. Processes like:

  • Pasteurization
  • Drying
  • Distillation
  • Evaporation
  • Sterilization etc.

can use high temperature solar heat from concentrators to supplement the heat from traditional sources.

Oorja Energy Eng’g presented “Novel Industrial Applications using Solar Thermal Technologies” as recently concluded InterSolar 2015 at Mumbai. The presentation was a part of the series – Novel Applications: A Part of India’s Solar DNA.

Oorja’s Managing Director, Madhusudhan Rao, talked beyond the traditional solar thermal applications like Community Cooking, Milk Pasteurisation, Boiler Feed Water Pre Heating, Solar Cooling etc. The novel applications discussed were:

  • Steel Mould Pre-heating in Steel Castings
Solar Thermal Steel MouldSteel Moulds require to be heated upto 300 deg C and can be done using Solar Concentrators
  • Bitumen & Aggregates heating in Road Construction
Solar Heat Bitumen RoadBitumen & Aggregates used on road construction use diesel for heating them to 160 deg C. Solar Heat source can be used.
  • Industrial Effluent Drying for Industries adopting Zero Liquid Discharge
Multi Effect Evaporator Industrial Effluent Solar ProcessingLarge quantities of industrial effluents are dried in Multi-Effect Evapoarator (MEE) that operate on Steam. Solar Concentrators can be used to produce this steam.
  • Hydrogen Production for use as fuel
Hydrogen Production Solar ThermalHydrogen fuel can be produced by using Ultra High Concentration using Solar using Metal Oxide reactions.

The event was well attended by nearly 100 people, despite some bad weather in the city. The presentation included discussion on the following applications of Solar Thermal Technologies:

  1. Community Cooking
  2. Industrial Process Heat
  3. Desalination & Waste Water Treatment
  4. Solar Cooling

Oorja commissioned its first solar thermal project by implementing solar heating solution for Almond House, a 25-year old manufacturer of sweets in Hyderabad. Prior to implementing the solar heating system, milk processing was done by burning diesel to produce steam and use it for producing Khoya (maava) from milk.

By moving on to using solar heating solution, diesel consumption has been reduced by 70%. Oorja has installed is solar parabolic troughs to produce the heat at 140 deg C required to process the milk. The additional benefit of implementing solar heating solution is that there is less fumes and soot emitted in the immediate environment where sweets are prepared.

Oorja Energy today demonstrated its patented radiant ceiling panel system at ACREX 2014. The new panel is made completely of aluminium and it eliminates low efficiency of other panels that require surface contact between two different materials. Using only aluminium for manufacturing of the panels also reduces the cost of production and makes the radiant cooling system economically viable.

Oorja is looking forward to installation of these panels at different customer sites in the coming months. For details on Radiant Cooling and how it works, please click here.

Oorja Energy and HIJC USA have inked an MoU for production of Solar ADsorption Chillers in India. Oorja Energy is exclusive manufacturing licensee of ADsorption Cooling technology from HIJC.

HIJC is one of the leading companies producing adsorption chillers upto 300 TR. With the new breakthrough in design, the chillers can be designed upto 1000TR each. The Adsoroption cooling technology does not use harmful refrigerants and uses only Silica Gel and Water.

Oorja Energy will start manufacturing these chillers at their new manufacturing facility at Cherlapalli in Hyderabad, TG
